Hungarian food in Budpest

What should you try when you're in Budapest?

Goulash, pörkölt, chicken paprikash, lángos – if it's your first time in Hungary, some of these probably already sound familiar. At Drum Café we've been cooking Hungarian classics in downtown Budapest since 2006. Some dishes we keep exactly the way people know and love them, and some we've given our own little twist.

Goulash

There's probably no other Hungarian dish as famous abroad as goulash. But what is real Hungarian goulash? A soup or a main course? And what's the difference between goulash and pörkölt? At Drum Café you can try it in more than one way – including classic goulash soup served in a bread bowl and our own goulash dishes.

Lángos

Hot, freshly fried dough, classically topped with garlic, sour cream and cheese – it's hard to find street food more Hungarian than this. At Drum Café we serve the classic lángos, but we've also taken it a step further: this is where several of our own specialities were born, including Black lángos, the Lángos burger and Lángos lasagne.

Hungarian classics

Of course, Hungarian cuisine doesn't stop at goulash and lángos. Beef pörkölt (stew), chicken paprikash, dumplings, Wiener schnitzel – hearty, classic dishes. We're especially proud of our Beef pörkölt Budapest style, served with dumplings, bacon and spring onion.

What to eat in Budapest?

If it's your first time in Hungary, it's easy to get lost in the menus. We've put together a list of Hungarian dishes we think you should try at least once – and we explain what each one actually is.

Hungarian flavours. Our way.

Drum Café opened in 2006 as a family business. Our kitchen is led by chef and master chef Zsolt Bátkay, who has cooked not only in Hungary but also in Spain and the USA. We love traditional Hungarian flavours, but we also love to play with them. That's how classic goulash, chicken paprikash and lángos end up on the same menu as our own creations, like Black lángos or Lángos lasagne.

Good food. Big portions. Fair prices.
